The 5th Annual Junior Faculty/Postdoctoral Fellows Career Development Workshop, sponsored by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) Minorities Affairs Committee (MAC), is scheduled for June 12-13, 2010. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 14, 2010.
The workshop will be held in Rosemont, IL, at the Westin O’Hare, 6100 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018, USA (www.westinohare.com). A special room block and rate ($115 per night/single) has been secured. Applicants should not make their own reservations at the Westin O’Hare as ASCB staff will make reservations. More details will be sent with registration confirmations.
Plenary and breakout sessions will cover areas relevant for the establishment of an academic career at research intensive and comprehensive/teaching institutions. Session topics will include the following: Professional Conduct, Tenure, Grantsmanship, Mentorship, Leadership, Ethics/Conflicts of Interest, Writing, Science Policy, Lab Setup and Management.
The workshop is open to all postdoctoral fellows and junior level faculty. A limited number of travel awards are available for members of underrepresented groups in the sciences, members of disadvantaged populations, and for faculty (regardless of ethnicity) at Minority Serving Institutions. The awards will cover travel, registration ($250), and housing.
