Winning images from the 2020 Image Contest

ASCB Image Contest—Enter to Win a Free ASCB Membership

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) welcomes submissions of striking images and videos that highlight any aspect of cell biological research. These may include light microscopy images and time-lapse videos, electron micrographs, images of gels or other assays, data visualizations, computer simulations, and any other scientific visualizations. Submissions can be either still images or short videos of up to 15 seconds in length. The best image and video contest entries will be showcased during Cell Bio 2024, and the winners will receive a free ASCB membership.

  • • Image and video files will be accepted September 9 – November 11
  • • Copyrighted or previously published images will not be accepted.
  • • Submissions must be accompanied by a caption of no more than 125 words describing what is shown in plain language so it can be understood by a broad audience.
  • • Each submission may have up to 5 credited co-submitters (submitter + 4 participants).
  • • You do not need to be a member of ASCB to submit.
  • • Submitters must be at least 18 years old.

  • Accepted file types: jpg, jpeg, png, gif.
    Videos should be optimized for online viewing with a file size under 50 MB and a resolution of at least 720p.
  • Describe your image in no more than 125 words
    By participating in the ASCB Elevator Pitch Contest and/or Image Contest, you grant the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) the irrevocable right to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, and display your submitted photographs, images, videos, and/or likeness in any format (print, digital, or otherwise) for promotional, educational, and other purposes related to the mission of the ASCB, without further compensation or notice. You also confirm that the materials submitted are original, do not infringe on any third-party rights, and that you have obtained necessary permissions for any individuals featured in the materials. You agree to release and hold harmless ASCB from any claims, demands, or liabilities associated with the use of these materials. By submitting your entry, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this release and agree to its terms.
