Working Press Registration

The ASCB and EMBO welcome all working press to cover the largest yearly meeting of research cell biologists in the world. This year, we are in Boston, MA, USA at the San Diego Convention Center from December 14-18. To register for working press credentials and to get access to all ASCB press materials, please visit the Registration Area’s Attendee Services Counter in Lobby D of the convention center.

In San Diego, CA, the ASCB can help you get your story, whether you’re in town or working from afar. We can help set up interviews with scientific newsmakers at the meeting and find researchers who might be able to comment on new research.

Who Is Working Press?

  • Working as a:
    • Reporter, editor, writer, publisher
    • Editorial or news cartoonist or artist
    • News photographer or videographer
    • Producer, president or general manager
    • Librarian, web master or other editorial employee
  • For a publication, news service, broadcast outlet or Internet site that is:
    • Regularly issued
    • Supported by advertising or paid subscriptions or published or funded by a non-profit organization
    • Operated with editorial independence from any political, governmental, commercial, or special interest group
    • Not a house organ of any organization or movement
    • Published primarily for the dissemination of news

Note: Academics or researchers who serve as journal editors should register as regular members of the Society. Publishers, business, or sales representatives are welcome to register as regular nonmembers. Professional, financial, or technology analysts should contact ascbinfo@ascb.org.

Identification Requirements

Working Press at the meeting must have both personal and professional identification. Professional identification might include:

  • Current members of the National Association of Science Writers, International Science Writers Association, or Canadian Science Writers Association, American Medical Writers Association, Society for Environmental Journalists, World Federation of Science Journalists, Association of Health Care Journalists, and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education can use their membership cards as professional identification
  • An official “press” card
  • A PIO badge or other identification from a nonprofit research institution
  • A media business card, or an assignment letter from an editor or news producer who can be contacted

  • - Meeting registration is nontransferable.

    Attendees who lose their badge may pick up another one from the Badge Replacement counter in the Registration Area. Attendees must show a photo ID and pay a fee of $15. If an attendee loses the second badge, the attendee will need to re-register for the meeting before receiving another badge.

    The ASCB has hired an official photographer for the meeting. Photographs taken at the Cell Bio 2024 meeting may be used in future ASCB or EMBO publications, on the ASCB or EMBO website, or in other materials. By registering for this meeting, you agree to allow the ASCB and EMBO to use your photo in any ASCB-related or EMBO-related publication or website.

    Each individual attending the Cell Bio 2024 assumes all risks associated with his or her attendance and participation in on- and offsite activities. Each individual attendee agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the ASCB and EMBO, and their governing bodies, directors, employees, and/or agents from all loss, damage, or liability arising out of or related to his or her attendance at Cell Bio 2023.

    Code of Conduct: ASCB's acceptance of your registration entitles you to a license (i.e., permission) to attend the meeting conditioned upon you not engaging in conduct that interferes with the opportunity for other to attend, enjoy, and derive value from this meeting. Attendees who ASCB determines in its discretion are disruptive to speakers, staff, or other attendees are subject to having their registration and permission to attend the meeting immediately revoked, without refund of their registration fee.     I understand that ASCB and EMBO cannot protect or prevent me from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while traveling to or attending the Event.
