Position Summary
The DORA Program Manager is responsible for coordinating programs and activities that serve DORA’s vision of advancing practical and robust approaches to research assessment and ensuring the Initiative’s consistent achievement of its mission. This is a hands-on role that, in coordination with DORA’s Chairs/Vice-Chair and the Executive Board, plans, initiates, and executes DORA projects ensuring that goals are met, projects are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Be the primary point of contact for DORA internally and externally and respond to requests from the DORA community
  • Manage volunteer committees executing collaborative work
  • Plan, schedule, and track project deliverables by maintaining project timelines and manage a clear project schedule while addressing issues and scope change
  • Manage the DORA budget and provide financial oversight for all aspects of program
  • Supervise, organize, and facilitate initiative events
  • Manage the set-up of the webinars and events and ensure webinars are properly posted in Zoom, posted on the website, and advertised
  • Coordinate with various committees, speakers, and other stakeholders on different webinars and events
  • Prepare minutes and correspondence for all meetings
  • Supervise DORA interns, as required
  • Oversee all vendor and contract management
  • Collaborate with staff from organizations providing “in kind” support to DORA
  • Facilitate internal communications between DORA’s Chairs/Vice-Chair and the Executive
    Board and ASCB leadership

Research Assessment

  • Document new and innovative practices
  • Oversee the addition of entries to DORA’s resource library
  • Manage the addition of case studies to the “Reimagining Academic Assessment: Stories of Innovation and Change” online repository.

Website and Community Engagement

  • Regularly blog, post to social media and send newsletters to signatories about issues related to DORA and progress on documenting best practices in order to keep awareness of this
    issue high
  • Oversee quality control of the current data on institutional and individual signers of DORA
  • Work with relevant staff and external contractors to oversee the maintenance of the DORA website and ensure that it is a regularly updated source of valuable information

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline required. A Master’s or Ph.D. in the sciences strongly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated project administrative experience. Advanced education/degrees will be considered in lieu of years of work experience.
  • Demonstrates an interest in DORA’s vision
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia
  • Knowledge of scholarly publishing, assessment of research
  • Strong written and verbal communication including the use of social media
  • Comfortable with technology and able to learn new processes quickly

Work Environment
DORA is part of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), which is based in Rockville, MD. This position reports to the ASCB CEO.

This role can be set up as a full-time ASCB employee or as a contractor arrangement. Full-time employment with ASCB offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health benefits, 403(b) with employer match, generous leave plan, and employer-paid life and disability insurance. Full-time employees at ASCB are currently working remote-first and report to the office one day a week.
